Lyne Lane Community Recycling Centre (CRC) in Chertsey was reopened to the public in July 2008 following a six month redevelopment.
The modernised recycling centre includes several new features and most of the demolition material from the old site has been reused to create the foundations for the new site.
The site now features:
- Split-level container bays to accommodate large containers for recyclable materials, removing the need for steps
- A one way ‘in and out’ traffic flow within the site solely for CRC users
- A dedicated entry and exit for site service vehicles – therefore the site does not shut temporarily for container changes
- More parking, enabling more people to use the facilities at any one time
The redevelopment at Lyne Lane was part of a county-wide multimillion pound investment programme in waste minimisation, recycling and disposal. The investment includes increasing and improving existing recycling facilities and infrastructure. Surrey County Council aims to be one of the top performing counties in the country for recycling and is targeting a 60 per cent recycling rate at all CRCs by 2025.
