The new and improved Earlswood Community Recycling Centre (CRC), Horley Road, Redhill, opened to the public in December 2008.
The facility is situated next to the previous Earlswood CRC and provides users with improved recycling facilities.
The site was overhauled to make it easier for Surrey residents to recycle and was part of Surrey County Council's county-wide multi-million pound investment programme in waste minimisation, recycling and disposal. This investment is being made to increase or improve existing recycling facilities and infrastructure.
The new site includes:
- A split level site accommodating large containers for recyclable mayerials and other bulky items, which allow easy access to the recycling containers and eliminating the need for steps
- A one way 'in and out' traffic flow within the site solely for CRC users
- A dedicated entry and exit for site vehicles so the sites does not shut temporarily for container changes
- More parking, enabling more people to use the facilities at any one time
- More facilities to recycle additional materials.
Surrey is aiming to retain its status as one of the top performing counties in the country for recycling and is aiming to reach recycling rates of 60 per cent at all CRCs by 2025.
Sean Trotter, regional manager for Surrey Waste Management, said: "Everyone involved in the project from site operatives to project managers worked tirelessly to ensure that the transition from the old site to the new one went as smoothly as possible. We are convinced that users of the new Earlswood CRC will find it easier to use and believe that with everyone's help we can reach the 60 per cent recycling target".
