![]() Why Clockhouse, near Capel?Surrey County Council believes that the waste generated from Surrey residents that remains after high levels of recycling should be dealt with in Surrey, rather than exported to other communities. Following county-wide consultation, Surrey County Council identified a number of sites that would be suitable for developing an energy-from-waste facility for this residual waste. Capel is considered to be the most suitable site because it is located outside the green belt. The land has previously been developed as part of the adjacent Clockhouse Quarry. The proposed EfW facility will result in its restoration, providing it with a useful future. The site is well served by a major "A" road (A24) providing access to the site without travelling through Capel village. The facility and the surrounding environmentThe EfW facility will be built using modern construction materials and techniques and has been designed to blend in with the existing surroundings. Rather than adopt a purely industrial design, the building will be curved with an arched roof. The roof will be mainly covered with sedum moss, which will provide a green and sustainable top layer for the building, as well as providing drainage benefits. |
