How to manage waste
- In the first instance, we must reduce the amount of waste produced. This means, for example, buying loose
fruit and vegetables where possible and cutting down on the amount of packaging and carrier bags used when shopping.
- It is important to reuse items where possible, for example by giving old clothes and furniture to second hand
shops and charities.
- With the household waste that is created, it is vital that as much as possible is recycled. Many recyclables
can be collected at the kerbside, while more can be taken to the community recycling centres across the county.
- The remaining waste is sent to landfill. Alternatively, energy can be recovered from the waste, for example,
by using energy-from-waste technology.
