Trumps Farm - key facts
Location of Trumps Farm
- Capacity: Trumps Farm EfW facility will process 160,000 tonnes of Surrey's residual household waste each year.
- Green Energy: The Trumps Farm EfW will produce around 14 MW of electricity daily, of which 12 MW will be exported to the National Grid. This is equivalent to providing power for 12,000 homes each year. As well as the benefits of the electricity produced, modern EfW plants have the potential to provide heat for local businesses and homes.
- Ash: Burning waste generates two types of ash. Bottom ash contains metals that are extracted for recycling. This can be recycled for block manufacture for civil engineering projects. The other type of ash, called air pollution control residue (APCR), is produced during the gas cleaning process. This material will be disposed of at an appropriate facility.
- Employment: Trumps Farm will create up to 150 temporary construction jobs. There will be 45 full time employees, many of which will be long term, highly skilled jobs.
Trumps Farm is located within the Green Belt and very special circumstances are needed to justify the development. Surrey's Waste Plan identifies the following considerations:
- No further suitable non-green belt sites
- The characteristics of the site
- The wider environmental and economic benefits of sustainable waste management, including the need for a range of waste treatment facilities across Surrey.
